Player Bio:
In my 10 years as a Respiratory Therapist I’ve worked closely with several patients afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis. I’ve seen the physical and emotional devastation that this disease takes, not only on the patients but on their families and loved ones as they await a tissue match which may allow them a second chance – a successful lung transplant.
It’s so easy to take for granted the stamina and endurance most of us have. I have the luxury of never having to think about whether or not I will be able to exercise to the maximum or get enough oxygen to my muscles to allow me to compete. CF patients not only have to think about every breath they take but they have to limit their lives in so many ways because of what the disease has taken from them.
It’s been extremely difficult, and in some cases impossible, to remain professionally detached from the strong and brave people that I encounter in my work. The feeling of helplessness in the face of Cystic Fibrosis is overwhelming and I knew that I had to join this great group of women to help to fight this disease. I am proud to represent my patients and those who cannot compete on the ice but who fight every day in ways that we cannot comprehend.
